Spring has finally sprung and if you’re like many homeowners, you may be getting the bug for some good old fashioned spring cleaning. It’s time to check the pool pump, turn over the flower beds and repair any sprinkler heads that may have been damaged over the winter. Spring is also the perfect time to clean and repair/restore your travertine, terrazzo or marble flooring and countertops, and at Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration, we’ve got the right tools for the job.

We use commercial-grade equipment and a diamond honing process that treat your floors and countertops with care and leave them shining and beautiful.

Why do stone tiles have holes?

Travertine and other stone tiles naturally have pores and holes – it’s what gives them the beautiful texture that makes your space feel like home. Travertine specifically is formed deep within hot springs, giving it a rustic appearance. As the hot water vapor from the springs escapes, bubbles are formed leaving holes in the stone. While the holes give the stone character and texture, they can make it more difficult to clean.

When travertine is processed at the factory, the holes and voids are filled and the surface is ground flat and polished. Sometimes, however, during travel, installation and just normal wear and tear, those fillings may loosen and even fall out, leaving small holes or voids.

How to repair holes and cracks?

While you may be tempted to “YouTube it” and figure out how to fill the holes on your own, it’s not as easy as it may look. Some DIY-ers will recommend filling the holes with grout, but grout is not as durable and may not last as long as other, more permanent solutions. Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration fills holes and cracks in your floor and countertop with epoxy made specifically for travertine and marble. It’s not the least expensive filler (or the easiest to work with) but it is the best, and that’s why we use it.

We carefully match the color of the epoxy to the tile, so the repairs look like just another beautiful facet of the stone. We work on one small section at a time, as epoxy dries very fast – 10-15 minutes. After we’ve filled all the holes, we use a diamond abrasive pad and commercial-grade equipment to give you the smoothest surface that’s beautiful and easy to clean. What about marble floors and countertops?

There is an art to filling holes and cracks in marble. For cracks in your marble floor, depending on the size of the crack, we can apply the same epoxy as we use for travertine, which is a better and more permanent solution than filling with grout. We then finish with a diamond honing process to make your marble floors and countertops a thing of beauty that will last for decades.
