How one stone floor restoration business became a champion for families trying to achieve the American Dream
David Bizaillion comes from a long line of “floor” people. In fact, as a 12-year-old young man in Houston, he could tell you the best way to bring your dull travertine back to its original luster. Or how to properly address uneven tiles (lippage) in your marble floor.
David grew up working for his father in the Houston-based family business, Bizaillion Floors. “Our flooring company was kind of like the family farm,” says David, who today owns Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration DFW. “As the oldest of five kids, we all helped out and worked in the family business. It was a way of life.”
Finding Himself
David did step away from the “family farm” when he went to college. He earned a business degree with the hopes of taking his career in a different direction. After graduating, David and his young wife welcomed the birth of their baby girl. They then relocated to DFW, where he took a position as a human resources manager for the City of Keller.
He ultimately decided to return to his roots, launching Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration in DFW in 2004. It took some time to build from the ground up. And over the next few years, life took a few unexpected turns. After a short battle with a common bacterial infection, David’s wife tragically passed away. He found himself raising their daughter alone. “It was an incredibly tough time, and I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do professionally anymore,” he admitted.
David taught school for a period of time. He accepted the help of family and his most trusted team member Miguel Campa to keep Bizaillion Stone and Floor moving forward.
Bizaillion Finds New Purpose
As anyone who has survived the loss of a precious loved one knows, grief will have its way and cannot be rushed. So, when David was finally ready to step back into the business in a fulltime capacity, he found that his why had shifted. “I deeply felt in a really new way that the purpose of my business was more about my team and their families,” he says. “I was able to see the value of why I have been blessed with this business in a really fresh way.”
David felt deep gratitude for his Bizaillion team who kept things running in his absence. More than a trusted employee, Miguel stepped up as the friend and business leader David needed in that moment. “Having this business affords me the opportunity to help individuals like Miguel, my other crew lead Pancho Campa and others by training them in a craft whereby they can support their families,” said David. “Humans really are your greatest asset in any business.”
