Ask the Pros at Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration
We say it all the time. Stone flooring is an investment. So, you’ll want to do your research and make the right decision when it comes to which stone type is right for you, your space and the way you live.
As specialists in the cleaning and restoration of stone floors (specifically travertine, terrazzo and marble), we feel like we have some pretty good insight here at Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration. And here’s the truth: Just like good parents, we love those three stone surfaces equally. Also, like good parents, we know each type’s strengths and weaknesses, and work with each to bring out their best!
Okay, parenting analogies aside, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Marble, Terrazzo and Travertine.
All About Marble
Marble is an elegant and beautiful natural stone that comes in many variations. Its striking grain patterns and creamy colors make it a popular choice for flooring when you want to make a statement. Because of its reputation as a high-end flooring choice, marble is considered one of the best stones for homeowners who want to boost the value of their investment.
Things to Know About Marble Flooring
Pros:
- Elegant, upscale appearance
- Natural material
- Easily polished
- Adds real estate value
Cons:
- Porous stone, requires sealing
- Scratches, stains more easily than some other choices
- More expensive than some other choices
- Cold underfoot
How to Make Sure Marble Stays Beautiful
Marble and grout cleaning by Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration is nothing like a routine at-home cleaning. Our commercial-grade equipment produces a deeper level of clean and shine than anything you could accomplish on your own. In addition, we use a diamond abrasive pad to help remove or lighten any deep stains. And while we can’t guarantee every stain will come out completely, our process and experience give us the ability to remove some super-resistant stains! A beautifully restored marble surface is not only beautiful, it is an investment that should be protected.
All About Terrazzo
For the record, At Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration, we loved terrazzo before it was trendy. In fact, we’re crazy about the stuff. But not in a weird way.
Terrazzo is a composite material traditionally featuring a medley of marble chips, quartz, granite, glass and shells poured with a cement or epoxy binder. It is a flooring choice that has been popular for large public spaces like restaurants, airports and even schools for years because of its incredible durability. And because it is typically poured into a cast, it does not have grout lines, making its upkeep even easier!
Things to Know About Terrazzo Flooring
Pros:
- Durable
- Environmentally friendly
- Low maintenance
- Versatile (lots of variation in color and movement)
Cons:
- Not a DIY job to install, repair or clean
- More expensive than some other choices (but remember its durability!)
- Cold underfoot
How to Make Sure Terrazzo Stay Beautiful
Just like marble and travertine, your terrazzo floors will eventually need professional cleaning in order to look their best. Terrazzo cleaning by Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration is the way to go because, as we have mentioned, we know terrazzo. Our commercial-grade equipment produces a better result than anything you could accomplish on your own. Our special cleaners emulsify grease and dirt build-up, lifting it from the surface of the floor.
A properly restored Terrazzo floor will look beautiful for up to 10-20 years, making it one of the easiest floors to maintain. Talk about great value! When we restore a terrazzo floor, we strip off all the wax and diamond hone the floors to reveal the original stone. Then, we have a whole process for cleaning, honing, polishing and sealing.
All About Travertine
Travertine is a wonderful natural stone that comes in many variations. At Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration, we love this popular stone for floors and showers. But there are some things you should know about travertine if you have this type of surface in your home or if you’re thinking about putting some in.
Things to Know About Travertine Flooring
Pros:
- Durable and long-lasting
- Comes in many natural colors
- Easy to cut and shape (excellent for oddly shaped corners and spaces!)
Cons:
- More expensive than some other choices (but it can last for decades!)
- Porous stone, requires sealing
- Susceptible to staining and etching
How to Make Sure Travertine Stays Beautiful
The best way to protect and keep your travertine floors looking amazing is professional cleaning and restoration by Bizaillion Stone Floor Restoration. We used a commercial-grade diamond honing and polishing process that goes far beyond what you could do at home.
Diamond honing is a wet sanding process that removes a very thin layer of the stone. Natural stone mined from the earth is put through an initial diamond honing process to create a flat and polished look. Over time, the stone will wear down, much like wood floors. We repeat the honing process to restore shine and remove any light scratches.
Polishing is the final step in your floor’s restoration journey and is done after diamond honing, as this produces the best (and most beautiful!) results. At Bizaillion, we know how to use these polishes to strengthen, expand the life of a floor and protect it from losing its luster.
